Judi Online -   Roy Hodgson has recalled Swansea midfielder Jonjo Shelvey for England’s Euro 2016 qualifiers.

Shelvey, 23, has one previous cap against San Marino in October 2012 and now could get his next against the minnows next month.

England boss Hodgson has turned to Shelvey for the double header with San Marino and Switzerland because of an injury crisis which has already ruled out Jack Wilshere and Jordan Henderson.

That means Shelvey could get a chance while Manchester United left back Luke Shaw also got a recall after his impressive start to the season.

"On this occasion we are obviously missing some players from the June matches. However this is compensated by the fact we have players who weren't available over the summer," Hodgson said.

"Jonjo Shelvey gets another chance as he has been very impressive since the start of the season whilst Ryan Mason has been unlucky with us - he picked up an injury the last time he was in the England squad.

But while Rodgers admitted Liverpool were trying to play to Benteke's strengths, he insisted he had not compromised his, or the club's, playing style.

"When you bring in a certain profile of player, it gives you other options," said Rodgers.

"What he gives us is that threat in the box. When the ball comes in, he's a striker that's in the area.

"There are other ways of keeping the game alive, but when you have a 6ft 4in player like Christian when the ball comes into the box, because of his physicality and mobility it keeps the game alive that little bit longer.

Rooney has not scored for United in nine games and admitted he has been below his best following the 3-1 Champions League win over Club Brugge.

Van Gaal praised Rooney's honesty in acknowledging his early-season struggles but suggested the United skipper had increased the scrutiny on him with his admission.

“[That is] because it can after a few weeks be a threat of the media again, or pressure from the media - I don't know that word I want to say, so I can't express it.

“He takes a risk, I think, but he is very confident that he will make the goals that we expect that from him, and I am confident also.”

Despite Rooney's goal drought, which stretches back to April 4, van Gaal is convinced the forward will start scoring again and vindicate his manager's decision to play him as his main striker.

"My standards he knows already,” said van Gaal. “He knows my philosophy and what I want from a striker.

“You can write what you want, but we cannot say what we want, that's the difference. I have the responsibility of protecting the interest of the club, of my players, and I cannot say too much.

“When you ask me 'Pedro, is he fitting in the profile?' I cannot lie, I said 'yes', but I don't say I'm interested in the player, that is the difference.”
